Journey’s freshly revamped lineup will headline the 2021 edition of Chicago’s yearly Lollapalooza pageant, in accordance to guitarist Neal Schon.
The festival’s formal site currently helps make no mention of their designs for 2021, soon after becoming forced by the COVID-19 pandemic to change to on-line performances in 2020.
Schon reported he “dying to get on phase again,” telling Eddie Trunk (as transcribed by Blabbermouth) that the band has “our very first date booked for Lollapalooza, and we are headlining in Chicago. And that is supposedly in April. With any luck , that’ll not get pushed back, due to the fact [the] vaccine is last but not least right here. And hopefully they commence dispersing it incredibly rapidly so everybody can get back on their ft and can get out and listen to songs, ’cause that is what heals the entire world, I think.”
When Trunk described that Journey was an unconventional alternative for the mostly option, hip-hop and digital audio-minded festival, Schon replied: “I have not noticed the monthly bill. Alls I know is that we are headlining it. I can promise you that with the new blood in the band, when we get with each other for two weeks of rehearsal before that exhibit, we will be the new choice. We’re gonna add a large amount to the show. We are gonna provide some new dynamics and open things up a bit and present individuals what the musicianship is actually like in this band.”
The group’s most recent live performance took area virtually a year in the past, on Jan. 31, 2019 in Las Vegas. It turned out to be the last Journey show to feature drummer Steve Smith and bassist Ross Valory, who were being fired in March 2020 right after what Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain explained in court docket paperwork as an “ill-conceived company coup d’état” created to consider command of the band’s title.
Two months later on, Schon announced that bassist Randy Jackson, who briefly executed with Journey in the mid-’80s, experienced returned to the group, joined by new drummer Narada Michael Walden and keyboardist / vocalist Jason Derlatka.
